Mesosphere DCOS 1.6 brings brand new UI, latest releases of Mesos and Marathon

For more than five years, DC/OS has enabled some of the largest, most sophisticated enterprises in the world to achieve unparalleled levels of efficiency, reliability, and scalability from their IT infrastructure. But now it is time to pass the torch to a new generation of technology: the D2iQ Kubernetes Platform (DKP). Why? Kubernetes has now achieved a level of capability that only DC/OS could formerly provide and is now evolving and improving far faster (as is true of its supporting ecosystem). That’s why we have chosen to sunset DC/OS, with an end-of-life date of October 31, 2021. With DKP, our customers get the same benefits provided by DC/OS and more, as well as access to the most impressive pace of innovation the technology world has ever seen. This was not an easy decision to make, but we are dedicated to enabling our customers to accelerate their digital transformations, so they can increase the velocity and responsiveness of their organizations to an ever-more challenging future. And the best way to do that right now is with DKP.

We are excited to announce that version 1.6 of the Mesosphere Datacenter Operating System (DCOS) is now generally available. The latest version introduces a long list of new features, including security improvements and the latest releases of Apache Mesos and Marathon.

Here's what's new in DCOS 1.6.

User authentication

You can easily enable authentication in your datacenter with DCOS Enterprise Edition. Authentication is managed through the DCOS web interface. Authorization is defined by access control lists (ACLs). The Admin Router enforces access control.

GUI Installer

New installer provides a rich graphical user interface that guides you through the installation of DCOS Enterprise Edition. With the GUI installer you can interactively install DCOS to a cluster, using a minimal configuration set.

Mesos UI capabilities now in the DCOS web interface

New capabilities in the DCOS web interface allow you to view and download files from any running task, including output and error logs.

DCOS Marathon upgrade

The latest Marathon version 0.15.1 includes many internal improvements and these convenient UI enhancements:

  • Perform actions directly from the Applications list. You can now perform common functions - like scale, destroy, and suspend - directly from a contextual dropdown menu. [caption id="attachment_4505" align="aligncenter" width="777"] Contextual menu for Application actions[/caption]
  • Better feedback. Our UI dialogs have been completely redesigned for clarity and usability. Color-coded severity levels are now shown: info, warning and error.
  • Application Health. The health status details are now shown in the application details page. [caption id="attachment_4506" align="aligncenter" width="562"] Application health in the detail view[/caption]

Advanced AWS Templates

New advanced DCOS AWS CloudFormation templates allow you to compose your datacenter deployment.
